[5amclub] – Travel – What next…

Possibilities…

Work-ation

Prerequisites
If its possible to

  • work remotely
  • really focus while you work

Logistics

  • backup data network like an additional SIM card/connection for a hotspot
  • backup powerful powerbank for both your laptop as well as mobile
  • find an economical, hygenic place to stay with good homely food – typically a homestay

Then its possible to work from a remote place.

  • Working during the working hours such that productivity does not get affected
  • And at other times (like mornings and evenings) instead of watching TV / scrolling, explore the place

A change in environment can be refreshing and boost productivity.

Team building

Traveling this way along with a team, where we spend some time out of work as well, can be great for building mutual understanding and trust in the long term.

There are a lot of things we associate abroad, which are possible in India as well. Here are just some examples that I’ve gone on which have been memorable times, where we can learn a lot as well.

  • Snorkeling
  • Scuba Diving
  • Surfing
  • Kayaking
  • River Rafting
  • Trekking
  • Caving

Voyager 1 was launched in 1977, with the initial purpose of studying the outer Solar System. As it ventured out of the Solar System, they turned its camera around and captured one last image of Earth, on the request of scientist Carl Sagan. Our planet looked like just one small dot. These are his words on seeing the image.

While the entire video is interesting, just the first few minutes are enough for this context.

There’s another interesting video of an ad of some game where they show the timeline of a person.

Note: its quite loud so lower volume to the minimum before playing.

These videos give us an idea that whether we like it or not, we’re anyway both travellers of both time and space!

Here children need not refer only to one’s own children, even children in one’s family, or one’s community. Needless to say there is the question of responsibility of safety.

Apart from that a lot of people prefer not to have children due to logistics and other trivial concerns. But the benefits of having children as co-travellers can far outweigh the extra effort and care needed to oversee their comfort and safety.

Togetherness and Friendship

Watching children help each other can be quite inspiring for the all grown up and responsible 😉 adults as well.

Treasure Everywhere

The most amazing thing is their curiosity and observation, and looking at the world with a sense of newness. Where ordinary things we take for granted can be seen as treasure!

Here’s someone looking into the grass… what’s there?

An unusual colored ladybug…

Knowledge Sharing

Driven by their questions, especially when we’re outside amidst nature, we get to learn a lot more things. Here we came across a termite nest which someone had broken for some unknown reason. We could see the architecture inside more clearly.

(Here we can the child still keeping the rock that she’d found somewhere, she wanted to take it home to paint)

Sharing Responsibilities

Its a lot more fun for them when we involve them in making choices of destinations, or if they’re old enough, look for a good deal or availability of transportion (train, bus, etc). They also can look for a preferred choice of accomodation at the destination within a given budget. They feel a greater sense of ownership.

In this picture in a plantation drive in a forest, children were also involved in the efforts of planting saplings and taking care of them.

Trusting Themselves

Though under careful supervision from our point of view, from their own point of view they explore beyond their comfort zone, they get a greater sense of trust of themselves.

So…. what can travel be about to us?

Travel used to be a more specific activity, typically about a pilgrimage, or for business/profession.

In the current era, travel has spread out to a lot more aspects, including being commoditized as well.

Maybe we can be more conscious of our own intention of traveling, and include possibilities like our own enrichment, perspectives, or contentment.
